Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering
Engineering & Built Environment at TU Dublin is home to state-of-the-art research facilities that span a variety of engineering disciplines. Our specialised equipment facilitates advanced research, industry collaboration, and innovation in sectors of civil, mechanical, electrical, and environmental engineering.
Our Facilities include:
- Prototyping and Design Fabrication: 3D Printing/ Additive Manufacturing, Advanced CNC milling, laser cutting, and high-precision manufacturing tools.
- Advanced Manufacturing and Robotics: Industrial Robotics, CNC machining, welding, and assembly automation.
- Materials and Structural Testing: 200 kN & 300 kN Load Testing Rigs, seismic and vibration testing, Advanced sensors for structural analysis, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) for microstructural analysis, Spectroscopy for material characterisation and Environmental Testing Chambers.
- Civil, Transport, and Built Environment Research: Concrete & Construction Materials Lab, Soil Mechanics Laboratory and Smart Building & Energy Efficiency Lab, Water Infrastructure Modelling for Climate Change Adaptation
- Energy and Sustainability Research: Research in solar energy, wind power, energy storage, and building energy efficiency, Environmental Sciences & Health Institute and Power & Thermodynamics Labs.
- Electrical, Electronic, and Photonic Engineering: RF anechoic chamber for antenna testing & electromagnetic compatibility research, Vector network analysers and ultra-high-performance oscilloscopes, Optical fiber research labs with high-spec tunable lasers, optical spectrum analyzers, and fiber alignment microscopes, Dedicated cleanroom facilities for microelectronics and photonic device fabrication, Photolithography & Nanofabrication tools and Atomic Force Microscopes (AFM) and RF probe stations.
- Transport & Mobility Research: Urban Transport Research Hub & Transport Simulation & Modeling Lab
- Construction Management & Surveying Innovation: Quantity Surveying, Cost Management and Digital Construction Technologies research including Building Information Modeling (BIM), 3D scanning, and geospatial data analysis.
