Drama-Based Techniques for the Marketing Academic

CEBII is hosting the "Drama-Based Techniques for the Marketing Academic"

Drama has significant potential to enrich both marketing pedagogy and research. Scholars have highlighted the strong parallels between teachers and actors, recognising that drama-based approaches can enhance learning and teaching by fostering engagement, participation, and reflection. Research suggests that 93% of students consider a lecturer's passion, eye contact, use of space, and vocal delivery to be important elements of their learning experience (Hains-Wesson, 2011). These same elements are also central to effective professional communication, making drama-based methods particularly valuable for developing presentation, public speaking and audience engagement skills among both educators and students.

This interactive, practice-based special session will explore how drama-based methods can be effectively integrated into education and presentation communications. Participants will work collaboratively in small groups to experience and experiment with a range of techniques, including storytelling, sketch development, role-play, and soliloquy. Through these activities, attendees will examine how drama can support creativity, critical thinking, empathy, confidence, and knowledge co-creation in marketing contexts. Participants will also explore how drama-based techniques can strengthen presentation skills by enhancing vocal delivery, body language, storytelling ability, audience connection, and confidence when communicating complex ideas.

The session is open to CEBII members and requires no prior experience of drama-based methods. We look forward to creating a supportive and engaging environment where participants can explore new ideas, share experiences, develop their teaching and presentation capabilities, co-create knowledge, and have fun in the process.
