Eligibility Criteria for PhD Studentships

The Research Centre Creative Arts and Media is funded through the Programme for Research in Third Level Institutions and as such administers its PhD studentships in line with established national research council guidelines and best practice.

General eligibility to apply

In order to be eligible for the receipt of a studentship an applicant will normally have met the following minimum requirements:

  1. Have achieved an honours BA degree (minimum 2.2) in a subject area relevant to the proposed research project.
  2. Be available for full time study during the period of research funding.
  3. Have submitted a research proposal, completed application form and supporting documentation

 

Previous experience

It is desirable that the applicant will:

  1. Have achieved – or be about to achieve – a masters qualification.
  2. Have a demonstrated track record of strong engagement and achievement in respect of their proposed research subject area. Have an ability to initiate and develop research projects both on a solo and on a collaborative or teamwork basis.

 

Applicants already on PhD track

In the case of intending applicants already pursuing postgraduate research degrees at one of the partner institutions, who wish to apply for a PhD studentship at the Research Centre, they will be deemed eligible to apply where: (i) they have commenced the research project in the last academic year; (ii) they have the written support of their supervisor(s); and (iii) they have completed and submitted to their institution, a transfer report in order to transfer from the masters register to the PhD register prior to the application deadline. In such cases the applicant must include a statement of support from the supervisor and a copy of their transfer report as part of their application.
