Sylvain Tondeur is a full-time English teacher and is currently registered on a “co-tutelle” PhD programme established between the University of Lille (France) and the National Centre for Franco-Irish Studies (TU Dublin – Tallaght Campus, Ireland). His research focuses on the contemporary renewal of Irish distilleries and on the influence of alcohol on Ireland's cultural identity. His research interests also include the phenomenon of illicit distillations in the 18th and 19th century in Ireland and the Irish drinks industry's history as a whole. His most notable publications include a chapter entitled ‘A New Phenomenon: Whiskey Tourism in Ireland’ in Voyages between France and Ireland: Culture, Tourism and Sport (2017) and he also co-edited (with Catherine Maignant and Déborah Vandewoude) the essay collection, Margins and Marginalities in France and Ireland: A Sociocultural Perspective (Peter Lang, 2021).
