IPA PhD Researcher Research Area IPA & Acculturation and Acculturation of Migrants.

Dr Joanna Kossykowska’s research focuses on the lived experience of acculturation and transnationalism of two generations of Polish migrants in Ireland. In her research, she uses Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis to discover her participants' experiences of living in the host country, their connections with Poland, and the emotional aspects of their family relationships. She received a bachelor's honour degree in business and management and a master's degree in international business from the Dublin Institute of Technology. She wrote a master thesis: "The meaning of working among employees from different countries". This dissertation enhanced her interest in first- and second-generation migrants' acculturation process and transnational connections. She is interested in migration patterns, psychological acculturation, migrants' identity and bilingualism.

She is a Polish migrant who has been living in Ireland for the last 18 years. She is working closely with people from different countries to help them overcome the difficulties associated with the language barrier. She is lecturing on Organizational Behaviour occasionally.
