Description
The Community Engaged Research Award recognises researchers who have employed an engaged research approach to address an issue of societal interest. Engaged Research is designed collaboratively with the people who will be most affected by and interested in the issues it addresses (the stakeholders). It addresses societal challenges and the UN Sustainability Development Goals.
Eligibility
The award is open to staff members who have fostered meaningful connections with the broader community throughout the project lifecycle, delivering tangible, lasting benefits from their efforts for those communities.
Nomination & Application Process
Nominations should come from two TU Dublin staff members on a single form.
The person nominated will be asked for additional information after the closing date, to support the evaluation of the application, should they wish to provide it. Self-nomination is not acceptable.
Evaluation Criteria
The award recognises researchers who have co-designed research projects with community partners, rather than conducting research projects for or on them. It also acknowledges the empowerment of underrepresented voices by actively involving them in the research process. Criteria include, but are not limited to:
- Collaboration and Partnership: evidence of equity and reciprocity, where community knowledge and expertise were valued alongside that of academics, and where engagement occurred at intervals across throughout the project lifecycle;
- Research Design and Outputs: demonstrated active stakeholder involvement in shaping the research goals, methodologies, and outcomes, such as co-designing research questions, collaborative decision-making processes, and/or joint authorship;
- Impact on the Community and/or Society: tangible outcomes that have benefited the community or society, such as improvements in policies or practices, the development of a solution or resource, or measurable improvements in quality of life or their environment.
Evaluation Process
The applications will be evaluated by an internal panel who will submit their recommendations for the top 5 scoring applications to the Awards Decision Board, which will be chaired by the Vice President for Research & Innovation.
Deadline for Receipt of Nominations 5 pm on July 4th, 2025
