Description
The Early Career Researcher Award recognises exceptional researchers who have demonstrated significant promise and achievement and have potential to be and have the potential to be leaders in their field. This award highlights individuals who have made notable contributions to their field through innovative research, impactful findings, and shown leadership potential.
Eligibility
Eligible nominees must have less then 10 years research experience since the awarding of their research degree. Adjustments to account for life events that may have impacted a researcher’s career will be accounted for, such as maternity leave, parental leave, illness, or caring responsibilities. This ensures equity and fairness in recognising those whose careers might have been delayed or interrupted due to personal circumstances. Self-nomination is not acceptable.
Nomination & Application Process
Nominations should come from two TU Dublin staff members on a single form.
The person nominated will be asked for additional information after the closing date, to support the evaluation of the application, should they wish to provide it. Self-nomination is not acceptable.
Evaluation Criteria
Nominees will have demonstrated excellence through a combination of research impact, creativity, leadership, and contributions to new knowledge. Excellence for early-career researchers can be defined across several key dimensions, including but not limited to:
- Research Activity: such as supervising research students & projects, funding, collaborative networks, and membership of professional bodies or organisations relevant to the discipline.
- Excellence in Research: demonstrated track record of significant outputs, including peer-reviewed research, publications, and various forms of research practice or innovation.
- Impact: the research's influence on a field of study and its potential or actual contribution to society, culture, business, or industry.
- Leadership Potential: highlighting the researcher’s ability to organise research activities, mentor others, and engage in professional development for leadership roles.
Evaluation Process
The applications will be evaluated by an external panel who will submit their recommendations for the top 5 scoring applications to the Awards Decision Board, which will be chaired by the Vice President for Research & Innovation.
