Description
The Established Career Researcher Award recognises researchers who have made outstanding contributions to their field through sustained research excellence, leadership, and innovation. They will have a strong research reputation, funding track record, and have demonstrated lasting impact on both their discipline and the broader research community, and society.
Eligibility
Eligible nominees must have 10 years or more research experience since the awarding of their research degree. Adjustments to account for life events that may have impacted a researcher’s career will be made, such as maternity leave, parental leave, illness, or caring responsibilities. This ensures equity and fairness in recognising those whose careers might have been delayed or interrupted due to personal circumstances.
Nomination & Application Process
Nominations should come from two TU Dublin staff members on a single form.
The person nominated will be asked for additional information after the closing date, to support the evaluation of the application, should they wish to provide it. Self-nomination is not acceptable.
Evaluation Criteria
Nominees will have demonstrated excellence through a combination of sustained research contributions, leadership in their field, high-quality publications, successful mentorship, and significant impact on both the academic community and society. Excellence for established career researchers can be defined across several key dimensions, including, but not limited to:
- Research Activity and Contribution: demonstrates sustained, independent research activity with a significant role in developing and leading collaborative research networks; successfully secures external research funding and supervises research students and career researchers, contributing to the development of future researchers.
- Excellence in Research Output: maintains a strong track record of peer-reviewed research publications and other impactful outputs (e.g., books, conference presentations, software/tools etc.); recognised both nationally and internationally through awards, citations, and/or the influence of their work within the field.
- Research Impact: makes a significant, lasting contribution to advancing their research field with clear impact on society, business, or industry; drives breakthroughs that align with national or international research priorities.
- Leadership in Research: leads strategic research projects, advancing TU Dublin’s and global research agendas; mentors emerging researchers, demonstrates leadership in research team management and is a leader of collaborative initiatives.
Evaluation Process
The applications will be evaluated by an external panel who will submit their recommendations for the top 5 scoring applications to the Awards Decision Board, which will be chaired by the Vice President for Research & Innovation.
