Evaluation Process 

The applications and supporting documents, where required or supplied, will be evaluated by four separate panels, as set out below, who will make a recommendation of their top 5 scoring applications to an Awards Decision Board, which will be chaired by the Vice-President for Research & Innovation. The Decision Board will have 3 members, including the VP R&I, the Head of Innovation & Knowledge Transfer and the Head of R&I for Engagement and Impact.

Composition of Panels: 

  • External Panel for Career Research Awards – will have 3 external members, nominated by the VP R&I. The panel will be chaired by the Head of R&I for Engagement and Impact, whose only role will be to minute the meeting and record the outcomes. 
  • Internal Panel for Research Awards - Faculty head of Research x 5; Principal Investigators who sit on the R&I Academy x 2; and 2 x other staff from the Research Community as nominated by the VP R&I. The panel will be chaired by the Head of R&I for Engagement and Impact. 
  • Mixed Panel – Innovation Awards - The panel will have a mix of 5 internal and external members and will be chaired by the Head of Innovation & Knowledge Transfer.
