Digital Capability Framework for Those Who Teach
Developing our staff to reach their full potential is a key objective of TU Dublin. In an increasingly digital society where digital education is a central component of learning, teaching and assessment, building the digital capabilities of staff who teach is a vital aspect of this development work.
The Digital Capabilities Framework for Those Who Teach provides the scaffolding around which we can build the digital capabilities of our teaching staff. It sets out the skills, literacies, competencies and attitudes identified internally as being important on both a personal and professional level. The framework can also be used by staff as an aid to map their own digital capabilities against those required for their role.
How can you develop your digital capabilities against this framework?
We have built two resources based on the framework that you can use to help you develop the digital capabilities set out in it. While both can be used in any way you wish, the suggested route through them is set out below.
Firstly...
Find out what your persona is for each of the six categories of digital capabilities in the framework!
Begin by picking a category from the framework and answering a series of confidence questions that are based on the digital capabilities in that category. Upon completion, you will be assigned your persona. The personas range from novice to expert and represent the level of your abilities in that category. Personalised suggested tasks will then be made available to you and these can be saved as a document for ease of use. It is recommended that you attempt the tasks assigned to improve your digital capabilities in that category.
If you complete each category in this resource, you will be awarded a certificate of completion. The resource can be accessed from within the Digital Capabilities Frameworks Support Module under the ‘Training’ tab in the VLE, or directly by clicking on the image below.
Then...
Once you know what your persona is, and you have attempted some of the tasks to address any gaps in your abilities, you will find this interactive companion resource useful. This resource explains each capability in more detail and signposts appropriate training, supports and professional development opportunities available to you. It can be accessed from within the Digital Capabilities Frameworks Support Module under the ‘Training’ tab in the VLE, or directly by clicking on the image below.
