Speak Out National Data Report Launch
The launch of the Speak Out National Data Report took place Tuesday, November 4, at Trinity College Dublin.
Speak Out is an anonymous reporting tool that allows all members of our TU Dublin community (staff, student, contract staff and visitors) to record negative personal incidents or witness incidents that they have experienced during their time at TU Dublin. It is not a formal reporting mechanism but a pathway to support both within TU Dublin and the agencies and services throughout Dublin.
Funded by the Higher Education Authority, this report will be used to inform future responses to sexual violence, abuse, and harassment in higher education, and encourage formal reporting. The report notes that of the 1,011 staff and students made anonymous reports between September 1 2022 and August 31 2024, only 12% of students made a formal complaint to their university or college, while only 4% of students made a complaint to An Garda Síochána.
TU Dublin Sexual Violence Prevent and Response Manager, Catherine Bolger was in attendance at the launch.
"At TU Dublin, Inclusion and Respect are central to our community. The Speak Out Tool plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and supportive environment by enabling staff and students to report concerning behaviours, such as bullying, harassment, discrimination, or sexual violence, confidentially and securely.”
Dr Deirdre Lillis
President, Technological University Dublin
