Educating for Sustainability CPD
Who is CPD for?
This programme is free and available to all academic lecturing staff at TU Dublin.
Module overview:
In response to the SDG4.7, which requires learners to acquire knowledge and skills for sustainability, this module addresses a gap identified by the National Strategy on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD to 2030) in ‘preparedness of lecturers to facilitate the type of participatory learning associated with balancing social and economic well-being with Earth’s ability to replenish its natural resources. This programme also addresses the priorities identified in the TU Dublin Strategic Plan (2024 – 2028) in relation to staff capacity building.
For educators committed to embedding sustainability in their academic practice meaningfully, this module aims to develop their sustainability literacy of the key principles related to the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a focus on enhancing sustainability competences using GreenComp (EU Sustainability Competency Framework). The module also focuses on appreciation and application of key education for sustainable development (ESD) policies and frameworks to creating evidence-based curriculum design that engages learners in transformative learning. It also prepares the participants to best incorporate TU Dublin Graduate Attributes into their TLA practice, in particular GA2 Planet – Sustainably-focused, global citizens.
Learning outcomes
- Demonstrate transformation in sustainability literacy through developing sustainability knowledge, skills and mindsets which are underpinned by the interconnectedness of environmental, social and economic dimensions.
- Critically reflect on sustainability-related approaches & frameworks to curriculum design aligned with Education for Sustainable Development policy, competences and reporting frameworks.
- Create opportunities for the development of sustainability competences through innovative pedagogical practices that lead to transformative learning and the enhancement of sustainability mindsets.
Module delivery
The module is delivered through a number of asynchronous individual and peer activities (15 hours) and in-person workshops (9 hours). More information coming soon.
