On 25 April 2026, a community clean-up was organised at Royal Canal Park, Dublin 15, in collaboration with TU Dublin, An Taisce's  National Spring Clean, Climate Ambassador, Flossie and the Beach Cleaners and TU Dublin Students' Union.

Led by TU Dublin Green-Campus Committee member and Climate Ambassador Amiirah Puttaroo, alongside Anne Kiburi, student at the School of Architecture, Building and Environment, a total of 13 volunteers, all students from TU Dublin and Trinity College Dublin, participated in the initiative. Within one hour, the team covered approximately 4 km of the area and collected 24.5 kg of waste.

The waste collected included abandoned clothing (jackets and gloves), a mattress, wood debris, plastic bottles, cans, cigarette butts, metal cords, fishing nets, straws, and a significant amount of microplastics. The presence of microplastics and cigarette waste highlights the urgent need to strengthen policies and public awareness around proper waste disposal.

Royal Canal Park is a biodiverse area with green spaces and a water ecosystem supporting wildlife such as swans and other species. Removing this waste contributes to protecting local habitats, preventing pollution from entering waterways, and maintaining the ecological health of the area.

This clean-up aimed to promote environmental responsibility, encourage student-led action, and foster a stronger connection between communities and their natural surroundings.
