TU Dublin is Switching off for Summer 2025

As the summer break approaches, TU Dublin is powering down with purpose. The University is urging all students and staff to switch off all appropriate devices and energy consuming equipment to ease pressure on the national grid and champion the Government’s ‘Reduce Your Use’ energy campaign. Before finishing up for the summer break, please look around your work or study area to see what can be safely switched off. It’s more than just saving energy—it’s a chance to unplug, recharge your mind, and support the planet.
Take Action
Please take the time to actively switch off any device or piece of equipment which does not need to be kept running. These actions can include:
- Fully switching off all computer devices and screens
- Fully switching off all office equipment such as printers, chargers, speakers, etc
- Clearing out and *switching off cold storage appliances in shared kitchens
- Staff who use laboratory cold storage are asked to consider what can be switched off or consolidated
*Be mindful for the potential for some freezers to defrost and leak, click here for tips on cleaning out and turning off cold storage appliances.
Reduce your Use
Electricity savings soared 25% (approx. 300 MWh/month) - a 27% leap over 2023 and 39% since 2022! With the help from students and staff, we aim to further reduce our energy use across the summer months and continue this trend as we transition towards net zero. To learn more about TU Dublin's baseline and projected emissions read up on the third and latest iteration of the TU Dublin Climate Action Roadmap June 2024.
Thanks to all involved at TU Dublin to #ReduceYourUse.
