TU Dublin Launches Mixed Reality Experience to Engage Students with the Sustainable Development Goals

Published: Tue Aug 19 2025 - 15:19

TU Dublin Sustainability has teamed up with Dr Bryan Duggan and his colleagues from the Faculty of Computing, Digital and Data to unveil a Mixed Reality (MR) experience designed to introduce first-year students to the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Launching during Orientation Week (9–12 September), this immersive holographic experience invites students to discover how TU Dublin is engaging with the UN SDGs. Using MR headsets it offers users a full 180-degree field of view, where they will encounter virtual elements that appear seamless with the real world. Through interactive 3D maps, soundscapes, and dynamic touchpoints, students can explore a wide range of sustainability projects and initiatives happening across TU Dublin.

Known as Quest: SDG, this innovative approach aims to spark curiosity and deepen understanding of global sustainability challenges among new students. By completing a sustainability challenge, students will actively engage with the SDGs in a way that is both educational and entertaining.

Quest: SDG will be available across all TU Dublin campuses throughout Orientation Week. Find the game at the Sustainability stand beside where Orientation talks are taking place.
