Research Assistant ARCH4change – ROLE DESCRIPTION

TU Dublin, School of Architecture, Building and Environment (SABE) research group is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to work on the Erasmus + ARCH4CHANGE which aims to co-create an architectural ‘climate emergency’ curriculum that is fit for the new decade. The Research Assistant may also be asked to contribute to other research activities and projects taking place in the school.
The school is part of a European consortium investigating how we can tackle the unprecedented challenges, related to mitigating and buffering the effects of the climate crisis, underpinning the transition towards a carbon neutral society in the education of architects. It is a project which seeks to change how we think about and teach Sustainable Architecture. The school is leading an Intellectual Output to develop a Teacher Training Toolkit for architectural educators. The successful candidate will work on the development of the digital curriculum for architectural education to respond to the climate crisis and the parallel Teacher Training Toolkit. The candidate will assist in collating and representing survey data, conducting, collating and refining research, preparing reports and presentations, and assist in the dissemination of the toolkit.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Architecture and will be a creative thinker, have excellent administrative and organisational skills with an interest in architectural pedagogy. They will have excellent skills in all Microsoft office applications, excellent written and verbal communication skills and have a knowledge of all online meeting platforms.
NB: This is a 3-month contract initially

Principal Accountabilities

•    Report to the TU Dublin Principal Investigator for ARCH4Change and Head of SABE Research Group
•    Contribute to all stages of the development of the project
•    Conduct and communicate project research as required.
•    Conceptualise and communicate ideas through architectural visual methods; images, presentations, text, video, models
•    Work independently and under the guidance of the PI/Head of SABE Research Group as required
•    Carry out any other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the PI and or Head of SABE Research Group.
•    Manage time effectively to meet project deliverables.
•    Actively comply with all TU Dublin policies and regulations, including those in relation to Research Ethics and Health and Safety.
•    Some travel within the EU may be required.
•    Contribute to other research projects as required

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the appropriate mix of knowledge, experience, skills, talent and abilities as outlined below:

•    An undergraduate Bachelor (Hons) (NFQ level 8) in Architecture or similar (Essential)
•    Working knowledge of research techniques. Effective written and verbal communication skills (essential)
•    Effective graphic and visual communication skills (essential)
•    A Masters in Architecture (MArch) or equivalent Masters (desirable)
•    Working knowledge of research techniques (desirable)

Experience

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in:

•    Architectural design practice
•    Research practices
•    Microsoft office applications
•    Online meeting and learning platforms
•    Graphic representation applications

Skills, talents & abilities

•    The successful candidate will be highly skilled and motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
•    Ability to think creatively and solve problems independently
•    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
•    Excellent organisational skills, administrative skills, time management and have the ability to undertake duties assigned and meet deadlines required.

Salary

The appointment will be made at Research Assistant B Point 1: €32,481 gross per annum pro rata (contract is for 3 months)
