Lessons on Sustainable Community - Eco Village Cloughjordan

All staff and students are invited to attend a presentation by students of the 'Material Stewardship' BArch Vertical Studio on their recent visit and lessons from Cloughjordan Eco Village.

Thirty students plus staff from the Material Stewardship Vertical Studio spent an informative day in Cloughjordan Eco Village; greeted by Davie Philips - one of the original founders and drivers of the sustainability agenda in The Village - he spoke on the history of the Village, the Eco charter behind it and the present day layout. This was followed by a guided tour looking at materials, cultural spaces and permaculture on the horticultural land. Over lunch Caelan Bristow gave a tour of her eco-renovation of an existing town house on the main street and the day was completed by a talk from Eileen Flanagan who built the circular Cob house in the Village, this touched on issues of material sourcing, design strategies and pragmatic building measures.
Students will present drawings, photos and learnings from their trip.
