RIAI Emerging Practice Award 2025
Congratulations to our School of Architecture, Building and Environment (SABE), TU Dublin colleagues Laura Carroll and Ciarán Molumby MRIAI on winning the prestigious Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) Emerging Practice Award 2025 for their practice Islander Architects. The award was presented on Wednesday 9th October at the RIAI Annual Conference at the RDS with the jury citing the breadth and ambition of their work. Ciarán and Laura accepted the award with an impressive speech that was fully reflective of their socially engaged, climate focussed practice agenda.
"What especially distinguished Islander was the range of work and their engagement in all aspects of architecture. There is a consistency to their work that emerges from an underlying commitment to “tackle the climate emergency”. From small built interventions that actively query scale and push for the possibilities in adaptation, to small scale urban, exhibition and writing, theirs is a focused practice that believes in the power of architecture to engage with the broader issues in society. They are doing exciting work across a number of different spheres and scales and the selection panel is excited to see the work they produce in the future.” (Jury Citation)
Alongside their practice work as Islander Architects and collaborative research work through Demolition Take Down and advocacy through HouseEurope! Laura and Ciarán, who are both TU Dublin alumni, are also part of the teaching team in SABE Architecture bringing their brilliant creative, critical and inclusive design approaches to our students.
