Rise and Fall: A Resilient Design Curricula lecture - Friday 3 March 2023

The School of Architecture, Building & Environment is delighted to invite to all staff and students to attend a lecture entitled 'Rise and Fall' by Matthew Barnett Howland and Dido Milne
Matthew and Dido will describe:
Their visit on March 2 and 3  is part of the Resilient Design Curricula project.
Matthew will also participate in B Arch Year 4 reviews and teach on the B Arch 'Future Food' Vertical Studio.

Matthew is Director of R&D at CSK Architects in Eton, and is an Associate Professor in Architecture at the Bartlett UCL.  He led on the research, design and construction of Cork House, a pilot project for an innovative solid cork construction kit with outstanding whole life performance.  Cork House was shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize and was the winner of the RIBA Stephen Lawrence Prize and The AJ House of the Year, and the associated research paper was awarded an RIBA President’s Award for Research.  Matthew has taught diploma studios at several schools of architecture, including the Architectural Association, University of Cambridge and London Met, where he was awarded the RIBA Tutor Prize.  He was Chair of RIBA South Awards 2022. 


Dido is a Director of CSK Architects, a practice with a longstanding record of specialising in bespoke, crafted buildings in sensitive historic locations.  Dido is interested in ‘Conservation’ in its most progressive form, where the inventive re-use and adaptation of existing buildings continues to be an intelligent and sustainable response to climate change and the pressure on resources.  Dido has led significant retrofit projects at Eton College, The Mall Galleries and the Howard-de-Walden Estate in London, and is currently working on a project for a new country house made out of the ruins and remains of historic structures on the site.  Dido was co-designer of Cork House, and was the chair of the RIBA South-East Awards in 2017 and sits on the local Design Review Panel.
