TU Dublin Host Forensic Science Taster Workshops on Tallaght Campus

Published: 16 Mar, 2023

The School of Chemical and BioPharmaceutical Sciences recently hosted a community engagement initiative on the Tallaght Campus.

129 4th, 5th and 6th-year students participated in the Forensic Science Taster Workshops with young people interested in science from the following schools in attendance.

  • Collinstown Park Community College
  • St. Kevin's Community College
  • Deansrath Community College
  • St. John's College De La Salle
  • Tallaght Community School
  • Killinarden Community School
  • Coláiste de hÍde
  • St. Mark's Community School

The workshops were run by Dr John Power, a lecturer on the BSc in DNA & Forensic Analysis programme and ex-Forensic Scientist at Forensic Science Ireland, and were organised by Patricia Owens in TU Dublin Access and Outreach.

The workshops were a great success, enjoyed immensely by both students and teachers, as evidenced by the feedback.

Collinstown Park Students

"Our students (and teachers!) loved it and thought the topic was interesting in itself, but the lecturer was beyond amazing. They all are buzzing!"

"Students found the workshop really interesting, and in fact, one student who had planned on applying for nursing now wants to apply for Forensics as her first choice."
