Celebrating Bioeconomy Ireland Week: TU Dublin Showcases Cutting-Edge Research

Published: Tue Oct 28 2025 - 07:17

The Faculty of Sciences and Health at TU Dublin held its second Research Seminar under the theme ‘The Bioeconomy,’ organised by Professor Christine O’Connor. The event formed part of TU Dublin’s recognition of Bioeconomy Ireland Week, which was celebrated across the University the previous week through a series of events highlighting innovation, sustainability, and impactful research.

The seminar featured two distinguished speakers from the School of Food Science and Environmental Health, Dr Azza Silotry Naik and Dr Amit Jaiswal, who each shared their educational and research journeys before providing valuable insights into their nationally and internationally funded projects. Their work focuses on waste stream valorization across a range of industries, showcasing how scientific innovation can transform waste into high value products and sustainable solutions.

Both researchers’ work is gaining strong momentum through collaborations within TU Dublin’s Food Innovation and Health Research Centre, Nanolab Research Centre, and the Centre for Sustainable Packaging and Bioproducts, as well as through partnerships with industry and academic institutions both nationally and internationally.

The outcomes of their research are contributing to peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and conference proceedings, while also attracting commercial interest and generating patents, clear indicators of the growing societal and industrial impact of bioeconomy driven research.

Professor O’Connor highlighted that the Faculty Research Seminar Series aims to strengthen collaboration and visibility across TU Dublin’s research and innovation community while celebrating the achievements of its researchers who are driving progress in sustainability, innovation, and economic transformation.
