The School of Food Science and Environmental Health maintains a sustainable active and vibrant research community which aims to address national and international industry and societal challenges aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
The School Research Community has 53 full time PhD students and 9 part time PhD students.
The School attracted €8 million in projects and ~€24.8 million in Research Funds between 2015-2020.
The outputs of the research in the School from 2015-2019 led to 228 publications, 4765 citations with over 60% of the papers with international collaborators.
TU Dublin’s open access repository Arrow has 236 items appearing for the School, with over 20,000 downloads, in ~10,000 Institutions in over 200 countries.
Our School research strategy is aligned to the TU Dublin research themes and national research strategies.
The School has a large footprint in the use of the University research Institutes such as the Environmental Sustainability and Health institute (ESHI) and the FOCAS Research Institutes.
The School also has state of the art equipment and laboratories to support research in our new Central Quad building on the Grangegorman Campus.
The School has successfully secured EU funding, SFI funding and other national funding through EI, DAFM, IRC and Walsh Fellows with Teagasc.
The School outputs published in high impact journals and are highly cited internationally.
The academic staff from the School offer expertise to the food and beverage industry through the research centre, The Food Innovation Lab and researchers from the School engage in National Research Platforms including Meat Technology Ireland and the dairy processing technology centre.
