Cosmetic Products – How to determine safety

On 26th Sep, Mr. Garrett Moran, from Oriflame gave an invited talk in School of Food Science and Environmental Health

Mr. Garrett Moran, Senior Director and Head of R&D Oriflame Cosmetics-Global Regulatory Affairs and R&D Division. Oriflame’s main business activity is on development and global distribution of cosmetics, skincare, personal care, and wellness products. Oriflame has extensive experience in mentoring researchers through collaborations with academic and industry partners. Garrett Moran met with researchers of Nanolab Research Centre during the ARISE Research Showcase on 10th June 2025 at the East Quad, TU Dublin. Garrett Moran also hosted summer work placement students organised by Dr. David O Connor from School food Science and Environmental health.
Mr. Garret Moran’ talk was on innovation, safety, and sustainability in cosmetic development. Researchers Dr. Azza Silotry Naik, Dr. Tao Zhang, Dr. Manisha Dhanshetty, Perveen Akhtar, Dr. Shiv Shankar and Dr. Furong Tian asked interesting questions. Dr. Azza Silotry Naik has filed a patent on a multi-functional cometic ingredient from beetroot by-products and is currently supervising final year project student who was summer work placement intern in Oriflame. Dr. Zhang Tao researches on Bioactive Compounds such as antioxidants from natural products. Dr. Manisha Dhanshetty has over 9 years research on toxicology. The wealth of scientific and technical information the Nanolab members hold has high potential for development of safe and sustainable cosmetic beauty products.

There are 56 students from Pharmaceutics Health Care year 2 and final year projects students from Food science TU881 and Nutraceuticals TU882 attending the talk. The initiative will enhance TU Dublin and Oriflame R&D capabilities including safer, more sustainable formulations, faster product development and environmentally responsible beauty solutions
