Pharmacy Technician Studies Team Participates in 2nd Transnational Meeting of the Erasmus+ PharmTech Mobility Project
Dr Tao Zhang, Dr Seána Hogan, Dr Gemma Kinsella, and Prof Christine O’Connor from the TU Dublin Pharmacy Technician Studies programme team attended the 2nd Transnational Meeting of the PharmTech Mobility Project, held in Madrid, Spain, on 27–28 May 2025. The meeting was hosted by the project’s Spanish partner, Formación Profesional Colegio Tres Olivos.
The two-day event brought together partners from Ireland, Spain, Belgium, and Portugal to review interim progress and collaborate on the ongoing development of a Common Pharmacy Technician Education Curriculum. Discussions focused on harmonising training standards across countries, sharing best practices, and refining a draft curriculum that balances core EU-wide competencies with national educational frameworks.
The project highlights the evolving role of pharmacy technicians across Europe and the importance of statutory recognition in countries such as Ireland, aligning with broader developments across the EU. Participants were also given a tour of the excellent facilities at Colegio Tres Olivos, including a simulated pharmacy dispensary, hospital training wards, and teaching spaces.
Participants were warmly welcomed by the Spanish hosts, whose professionalism and hospitality were greatly appreciated. Special thanks go to Isabel Elguero Claramunt, M. Jesús Aparicio Cabezas, and their colleagues at Colegio Tres Olivos for their exceptional hosting and dedication to the success of the project.
The final transnational meeting of the PharmTech Mobility Project is scheduled to take place in Belgium in early 2026, as the partnership continues to work towards a more harmonised and future-ready training framework for pharmacy technicians across Europe.
