The School of Food Science and Environmental Health, TU Dublin currently has a position available for a Research Assistant in Occupational Health and Safety.
Job Description
The School is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant in Occupational Health and Safety on a fixed term (10 months) specified purpose basis. The post holder will be required to carry out research on the role HFISS research team to support the activity of the work in various ongoing and new incoming projects. Specifically an ERASMUSM Plus project: 4SIM: Scalable Socio-Technical System Simulation in Manufacturing Awarded and proposal preparation support for
CORESP: Co-Responsibility and Resilience through Participatory Engagement among Communities, Researchers, and Local Authorities.
Principal Accountabilities
- Report to Principal Investigator, and research team
- Contribute to the research design and laboratory studies in relation to the
- Record, analyse and write up the results of interviews.
- Ensure quality of data through the use of validated methods and external
- Prepare and present findings of research activity to colleagues for review
- Contribute to the overall activities of the research team and department as
- Work under supervision on an assigned research
- Be responsible for ensuring that equipment is safe and maintained in working
- Carry out any other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the
- Manage time effectively to meet the deliverables of the
- Actively comply with all TU Dublin policies and regulations, including those in relation to Research Ethics and Health and
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the appropriate mix of knowledge, experience, skills, talent and abilities as outlined below:
Knowledge
- Masters Degree (level 9) in relevant discipline (Data analytics, Computer Science, Human Factors, safety) by an approved degree-awarding authority. (essential)
- Evidence of familiarity with the subject matter and willingness to be/remain contemporaneous with the subject matter. (essential)
- Working knowledge of research techniques. Effective written and verbal communication skills. (essential)
- The successful candidate should have appropriate report writing skills, data analytics capacity, statistics and possess computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint). (essential)
Experience
The project is based in the school of Food Science and Environmental Health. It is desirable that the successful candidate have hands on experience in;
- Evidence of ability to analyze, statistically review and technically report analytical data.
- Experience in Human Factors evaluation for safety critical task (essential)
Skills, talents & abilities
- The successful candidate will be highly skilled and motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a
- IT skills to include Excel data analysis, and other related software and preparation of high level data analysis.

Salary
- The successful candidate will be appointed at Point (01) of the Senior Research Assistant salary scale i.e. € 36,794 gross per annum. (Position is for 10 months)
