Dr Azza Silotry Naik, School of Food Science and Environmental Health and Prof Christine O’Connor hosted the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership funded VASEACAD (Valorising seafood side streams, residues, unwanted catches and discards for production of bioactive protein hydrolysates and high added value biomolecules) project kick off meeting in TU Dublin 6th November 2025.
Delegates from around Europe flew in for the first in person project meeting. The agenda included in-depth discussion on each work package, the details and significance of each work package in relation to other work packages and the logistics of managing the project. The team worked hard to get through the agenda and enjoyed lunch at Musgrave Marketplace restaurant thanks to our colleagues and their students in the School of Culinary Arts and Food Technology. It was a great opportunity to showcase or Central Quad building and campus.  The delegation experienced some Irish Culture at Celtic Nights that evening. On Friday 7th November the delegation went to Tralee to visit BioAtlantis who are also part of the project and had a very fruitful meeting and discussion regarding the project which included a tour of the plant. Following the kick off meeting we are very excited to get started on the research and have a great hard working enthusiastic team to work with.
