Congratulations to Matthew Hellis, who has successfully defended his PhD thesis "Holographic Optical Elements for Vison Correction & Treatment" on 3rd December 2025. It is fantastic to see Matt's academic and professional growth throughout the years. Beginning as a mature undergraduate student in BSc (Hon) Science with Nanotechnology programme at our school, he went on to join the Centre for Industrial and Engineering Optics | TU Dublin in 2021, supported by Irish Research Council funding. His doctoral thesis was supervised by Dr Kevin Murphy, Dr Matthew Sheehan and Dr Suzanne Martin and examined by Prof. Augusto Belendez (University of Alicante) and Dr Siofra Harrington (TU Dublin). Over the course of his four-year doctoral journey, Matt Hellis distinguished himself through numerous accomplishments. He published a range of research articles, delivered presentations at both national and international conferences, and played a pivotal role in advancing the activities of the TU Dublin Optica and SPIE student chapters. In addition, Matt made an invaluable contribution to undergraduate education at TU Dublin, serving as a Tutor Senior Demonstrator in the Physics laboratories.

We are proud of Matt’s achievements and wish him every success in his career ahead!
