TU Dublin Physics Student wins the Institute of Physics Earnshaw Award
Our recent Physics with Data Science graduate, David Connolly, is the recipient of this years Institute of Physics (IoP) Earnshaw Award for his project ‘Identifying, Characterising, Classifying and Tracking Solar Active Regions – A SMART Solution’ undertaken in collaboration with the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies, under the supervision of Dr Aidan Meade and Dr Shane Maloney (DIAS).
On Wednesday 3rd December David received his award from the IOP Ireland Committee Chair Sarah Markham,
The citation from the award assessors noted “It was delightful to read the work. It gave excellent coverage of a package of activities carried out by the student covering the physics, theory, analysis techniques, program development and interpretations, all of which were clearly written showing that the author had understanding of the individual elements and of the project in its entirety.”
Warm congratulations to David and the project supervisors.
