Workplace Relations

Workplace Relations is at the forefront of human resource management practice. Good employee relations are not only desirable, they are a necessity.  The staff in this section work to support the University by providing quality advice, support and technical knowledge in the management of employee and industrial relations. We develop and implement proactive Human Resource policies and procedures which are intended to foster positive employee relations and collaborative management practices based on mutual respect, trust and shared responsibility.

 

Employee Relations at TU Dublin focuses on fostering positive workplace interactions and collaborative management practices. It involves developing and implementing proactive HR policies and procedures that promote mutual respect, trust, and shared responsibility between the university and its staff. The Employee Relations team provides quality advice, support, and technical knowledge to manage individual employee concerns and ensure a harmonious work environment. This team oversee the Dignity at Work Policy for the University.

Industrial Relations at TU Dublin deals with the collective aspects of the employer-employee relationship. It involves managing interactions with recognised Social Partners facilitating negotiations on changes and addressing collective issues. TU Dublin's Industrial Relations function works to maintain productive relationships with unions, handle collective bargaining processes, and resolve disputes through firstly alterative dispute resolution at the earliest opportunity or in some instances through established mechanisms like conciliation and mediation services provided by the Workplace Relations Commission. In cases where there are collective grievances, these are managed through the University's Grievance Procedure. The Industrial Relations Framework can be found here.

The Grievance Procedures and Disciplinary Procedures for TU Dublin were approved by Governing Body. These procedures apply to all staff.

The University has formally recognised a number of Trades Unions as having a role in representing staff in relation to discussions with the University concerning employment-related matters. It is University policy to facilitate trade union activity by normally allowing staff representatives reasonable time away from work to take part in negotiations and other union business.

The University recognises a number of trade unions for particular categories of staff i.e.

  • Teacher's Union of Ireland (TUI): Academic Staff
  • FORSA: Administrative, Library and IT Staff
  • Unite: Technical Staff
  • FORSA Municipal and SIPTU: Maintenance Staff
  • Craft Group of Unions: Craft Working Staff
  • Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO): Nursing Staff
