Post Doctoral Researchers

Ali Abbass is a researcher in structural and materials engineering, specialising in the mechanics, design, and chemical synthesis of composite materials for sustainable applications in existing structures. He holds a BSc in Structural Engineering, followed by an MSc in Structural Analysis of Monuments and Historical Constructions from the University of Minho, Portugal, and Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña- Barcelona Tech, Spain. His MSc work on steel and basalt fibre reinforcements inspired his continued focus on innovative retrofitting techniques. During his PhD, he developed expertise in lignocellulosic materials and created an environmentally friendly, fibre‑based seismic retrofitting system, later patented in Portugal. He subsequently worked as a postdoctoral associate on an industrial project with KERAKOLL SPA. Alongside research, he has extensive teaching and supervision experience and has received major awards, including the AGA KHAN Scholarship and Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia doctoral grant.
