Stephen Lee is a Postdoctoral Researcher specialising in advanced engineering materials and manufacturing technologies. He earned his PhD from the University of Limerick’s School of Engineering, where his research focused on developing real-time digital twin and machine learning solutions for hole quality and tool condition monitoring in robotic drilling of composite materials.

Stephen’s expertise encompasses composite manufacturing, mechanical testing and machining processes, and he has published research on the development of digital twin frameworks and hybrid machine learning models for quality assessment. His recent innovation, which applies a machine learning model for in-situ drilling quality evaluation, has delivered significant improvements in efficiency and cost reduction within industrial applications.

He is currently collaborating with an industrial partner to advance the integration of cutting-edge technologies and AI-driven solutions within smart manufacturing environments. Stephen is also open to new project collaboration opportunities and industrial partnerships focused on making Industry 4.0 a practical reality.
