Dr Emma O’Brien is an entrepreneurial educator and researcher in the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management at TU Dublin. Her work centres on designing innovative and inclusive enterprise education initiatives that develop entrepreneurial skills through experiential and practice-based learning. Her research and community collaboration focus on inclusive entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship, and the pedagogy of entrepreneurship education. She has led several EU-funded projects, and her work has been published in international journals and recognised through community engagement awards and entrepreneurship bursaries.
Prior to joining TU Dublin, Emma was Entrepreneurial and Education Director of a large-scale industry–academic research institute at Dublin City University. She holds a PhD in Entrepreneurship, an MBA, an MSc in Science Communication, and a BSc in Analytical Science. Her doctoral research examined higher education’s role in developing inclusive entrepreneurship for disadvantaged communities and has informed both policy and practice.
Emma is an external examiner and reviewer for international entrepreneurship journals. She is a founding member of the Centre for Entrepreneurial Behaviour, Inclusion and Innovation (CEBII) at TU Dublin and a member of the European Council for Small Business.
