Bridging PhD Research and Industry: A Secondment at Screenlink and Collaboration Visit

Published: Friday 21 August 2026 - 17:10

Perveen Akhtar, an ARISE PhD student, completed a three-month secondment at Screenlink from 5 May to 7 August. The secondment provided Perveen with an excellent opportunity to gain valuable industry experience, develop her professional skills, and establish new professional connections.

During her time at Screenlink, Perveen gained valuable experience working in an industry environment and developed a deeper understanding of how research and technical knowledge can be applied to practical, real-world challenges. The secondment also allowed her to develop new skills and broaden her professional network.

During the secondment, Dr Bilal Javed, the lead supervisor of Perveen’s PhD project, visited Screenlink to explore opportunities for further collaboration between the TU Dublin and Screenlink. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss potential areas of mutual interest and future collaboration.

On 5 August, Perveen gave a presentation summarising her secondment experience and work at Screenlink. She presented an overview of the activities she had undertaken, the skills and knowledge she had developed, and the key outcomes of her three-month industry experience. The presentation also highlighted how the secondment contributed to her professional development.

Perveen would like to sincerely thank Dan Hoban, Keith Hoban, Rubina Sheikh, Graham O’Neill, Nova and all the other Screenlink team members for their support, guidance, encouragement, and assistance throughout her secondment. Their kindness and willingness to share their knowledge and experience made the secondment a highly valuable and rewarding experience for her. She would also like to thank Dr Bilal Javed, Dr Furong Tian and Prof. Hugh J. Byrne for their guidance and continued support.
