The Nanolab Research Centre celebrated its 20th anniversary on 2 October, bringing together researchers, postgraduate students and alumni from across Ireland, the UK and France. The event was made possible by funding received last year, when the Nanolab was awarded the Nanomaterial-derived Biosensors and Diagnostics with Industry Case Study Award.

The anniversary celebration featured an opening address by Dympna O’Sullivan, followed by presentations highlighting current research at the Nanolab from Dr Furong Tian and Dr Esen Efeoglu Maher. Current postgraduate researchers also presented their work, showcasing the centre’s ongoing research activities and the next generation of scientific talent.

The programme continued with contributions from Professor Hugh Byrne and Professor Gordon Chambers, before alumni shared their professional experiences and insights during panel discussions focused on careers in the public sector, universities and industry. The event also provided an opportunity for attendees to reconnect and celebrate the Nanolab’s achievements over the past two decades. Lunch from Little Washer, along with cakes and refreshments, brought participants together in a welcoming atmosphere.

The celebration concluded with closing remarks and a vote of thanks to all guests, speakers, postgraduate researchers and alumni for their participation and continued connection with the Nanolab. The attendance of alumni working across industry, the public sector and academia highlighted the centre’s far-reaching impact and the diverse career paths of its graduates, marking a significant milestone in the Nanolab Research Centre’s history.
