Strengthening Industry-Academic Ties: TU Dublin ARISE Scholars Meet with SGS Ireland
On April 23, 2024, ARISE team from TU Dublin, including Ruth McAdams (Business Development Manager), Jesus Maria (Lead Sustainability and Health Research Hub) and ARISE PhD Nanolab researchers Gayathree Thenuwara, Perveen Akhtar and Emmanuel Duah Osei, visited SGS Hazel House. They were joined by fellow scholars Leena Saju, Emmanuel Duah Osei, and Jemma Nolan, the team engaged in discussions with Jane Massey (Senior Consultant) and Mary Kennedy (Commercial Operations Manager) from SGS. The meeting focused on research project presentations, innovation opportunities, and future industry-academic collaborations.
Key aspects of meeting include SGS Ireland’s presentation on sustainability, medical device regulation, its role in inspection, verification, testing and certification of natural resources and food. O’ Sullivan Cormoc (UK Business Assurance Manager) highlighted key challenges and areas that need to be focused on seafood and aqua culture industry and role of SGS in this area. The session also featured presentations from ARISE PhD researchers:
- Perveen Akhtar presented her project on "Quantification of Marine Biotoxins in Seafood based on Multiplex Immunochromatography Integrating Diverse Bioreceptors and Mobile Appliance Detection."
- Jemma Nolan discussed the development of CSRD sustainability models for Ireland’s food industry.
- Emmanuel Duah Osei presented his work on Brewer’s and Distillers’ Spent Grain Hydrolysates for Upcycled Functional Pet Food.
- Leena Saju presented her research on Test Cell Setup, Insulation, and Emerging Materials.
Nanolab’s participation highlighted its strong commitment to translating cutting-edge research into real-world impact, particularly across food, agritech, bioeconomy, and sustainability sectors. The visit served as a significant step in strengthening relationships between SGS and the ARISE program at TU Dublin, paving the way for potential collaborations that can drive innovation and address real-world challenges.
