Visit St James Hospital

On 21 July, Gayathree Thenuwara and Kea Flores visited St James’s Hospital to meet BSc Nutraceuticals in Health and Nutrition students who were undertaking their clinical placements at the hospital.

During their placements, the students gained practical experience in Specimen Reception, the Pathology Laboratory, Near Patient Testing and the Immunology Department. The visit provided an opportunity to meet students and clinical staff, discuss their placement experiences and strengthen collaboration with St James’s Hospital.

The visit also included discussions on future research collaboration in biosensor development for the detection of biomarkers associated with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). The collaboration will also support the clinical evaluation of these biosensor technologies, helping to assess their potential use in real clinical settings while strengthening links between academic research and clinical practice.
