Advanced Producing Ard-Léiriú

Aimed at up and coming producers and using key industry specialists, the Advanced Producing Programme is designed to give new producers a comprehensive understanding of the script to screen process.

The programme is led by John McDonnell (Fantastic Films) and features a number of highly experienced industry guest speakers. It will cover key skills areas essential to a producer’s career development including: the development process; financing; legal issues; budgeting and scheduling; production; post-production; management and negotiation skills; sales and distribution; festivals/markets and pitching.

Graduates of the programme will gain the skills, confidence and connections to operate in the rapidly growing screen industry. The programme will also equip up-and-coming producers with the skills identified by the industry to work in established production companies or to work independently in their own companies.

Equipment Requirements:

Computer or Laptop: A modern computer with a reliable broadband connection.
Webcam, Microphone & Headphones: A webcam, microphone, and headphones (or a headset) for online lectures and presentations.
Software: A modern web browser is required. 

To qualify for the admission to the programme applicants will need to be:

1. Graduates with a level 8 award in a creative industry discipline.
   and/or
   Existing employees in the creative industry who may not have a formal qualification. Experience will be evaluated through a recognition of prior (RPL) learning process. 2. It is a requirement of the programme that applicants need to be working in the Creative Industries at an appropriate level or have worked in appropriate roles within the industry
3. It is a requirement of the programme that each student must have a case-study script as detailed in the guidelines below under "how to apply". 

Applicants for this course should have a minimum IELTS (Academic Version) English Language Proficiency of 6 overall (or equivalent) with nothing less than 6 in each component.

This blended learning programme combines online and in-person classes across two semesters: 
Semester 1: September - December 2026
Semester 2: January - May 2027 
Online classes held weekly on:
Tuesdays: 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Thursdays: 6:00pm - 9:00pm
In person day-time attendance on one Saturday per semester plus one field trip, usually in Semester 2.

• A personal statement describing your motivation for applying to this programme and how it aligns with your personal and professional goals;
• Curriculum vitae
• Any transcripts/awards
• Proof of competency in English (if required)
• Any further documentation that you may consider relevant in supporting your application.
• Participants must already have either: a script for a feature film; or a draft pilot script and series outline for a TV drama/drama series; or a full treatment and/or script for feature documentary.  An agreement with the creator of the script should be in place if the participant is not the copyright owner.
• The application should contain a short (one-page) synopsis of the project but not the script. The one-page synopsis should demonstrate a well-developed concept, with an overview of story, genre, characters, themes, and potential audience.

Please note this course does not focus on script development, your case study project will be used throughout the programme for key exercises and assignments. Your case study script can range from first draft to a fully developed script.

The Advanced Producing Programme was a vital first step in my path to becoming a producer, and would highly recommend emerging producers to take part.
