Dr Dympna O’Sullivan holds a BSc in Computer Science and a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from University College Dublin and joined TU Dublin in 2019, following academic appointments at City St. George's, University of London and Aston University in the UK, and the University of Ottawa in Canada. At TU Dublin, she has served as the Head of Research for the Faculty of Computing, Digital and Data, and, most recently, founded and led the Digital Futures Research Hub, advancing interdisciplinary research that bridges ICT in collaboration with industry, community, and public-sector partners. 

Dympna has secured over €4 million in research funding as a Principal Investigator and is a co-applicant and TU Dublin institutional lead on several major national ICT research initiatives totalling more than €140 million. Her own research sits at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, Human Computer Interaction, digital health and digital accessibility, with a strong focus on assistive technologies that promote independence and quality of life for people with cognitive and physical impairments. 

Dr O’Sullivan is a recognised expert in transdisciplinary research methods and a strong advocate for patient and public involvement (PPI), championing collaborative approaches that engage societal stakeholders throughout the research process. She is also an active contributor to public discourse on AI and digital transformation contributing across national and international TV, radio, and print media. 

Dympna is committed to strengthening the representation and visibility of women in STEM, contributing to multiple initiatives that promote equity and inclusion in higher education. She is a current board member of IPPOSI (the Irish Platform for Patients Organisations, Science & Industry) and a former board member of Informatics Europe.
