Dr Ruth Casey

Dr. Ruth Casey is a highly accomplished academic and governance expert with a research and teaching portfolio grounded in sociology, European Union studies, and internationalisation in higher education. She holds a PhD and MLitt in Sociology, a BA in Arts, a Diploma in EU Studies, and CPD certification in Negotiation Skills. She teaches Communications and European Union Studies across several business-related disciplines, including: 

  • Accounting and Finance
  • Economics and Finance
  • Human Resource Management
  • Business Studies 

Her innovative teaching approaches include: 

  • Use of global case studies to deepen international perspectives
  • Collaboration with the European Commission and leveraging Erasmus+ experiences in curriculum
  • Gamification and flipped classroom methods to build critical thinking
  • Video-based reflective assignments to develop postgraduate presentation skills
  • Assessments designed to foster entrepreneurial and policy-focused thinking 

Research Interests 

Dr. Casey’s scholarly work focuses on the internationalisation of higher education, with a particular emphasis on: 

  • Transnational cooperation through European Universities Alliances
  • EU and national synergy in education policy
  • International diplomacy in educational governance 

She has received funding from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade through the Communicating Europe Initiative, and regularly mentors students participating in European policy development initiatives.
