Informatics-4-all Summer Camps at TU Dublin Blanchardstown

Summercamp

Discover the World of Computing and Digital Innovation

Step into the exciting world of Informatics with our interactive summer camps at TU Dublin Blanchardstown. Funded by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) and designed for second-level students, our camps provide a hands-on introduction to computing, digital technology, and problem-solving in a fun and supportive environment.

Whether you're curious about coding, artificial intelligence, or cybersecurity, our camps are the perfect place to explore, create, and learn.

What Is Informatics?

Informatics is all about using technology to solve real-world problems. It combines creativity, logic, and innovation to design digital solutions that shape how we live, work, and communicate.

Our summer camps bring these ideas to life through practical activities that show how technology can be used for good—and how you can be part of that future.

What You’ll Experience

Participants take part in a variety of engaging, hands-on workshops led by experienced lecturers and student mentors. Activities are designed to be accessible, interactive, and enjoyable—no prior experience required. Some of our previous summer camp activities are listed below.

Explore Artificial Intelligence

Summercamp 2

  • Learn how machines can recognise images, sounds, and patterns
  • Build your own simple AI models using accessible tools
  • Explore how AI is used in everyday life—and its possibilities and challenges
  • Create a small web-based AI project to share with others

Build Digital Solutions with Microcontrollers

Microbit

  • Get hands-on with coding using micro:bit mini-computers
  • Create animations, games, and interactive devices
  • Learn core programming concepts like loops, variables, and logic
  • Use sensors and inputs to build real-world digital solutions

Learn to Code with JavaScript

Summercamp 4

  • Get hands-on with coding using micro:bit mini-computers
  • Create animations, games, and interactive devices
  • Learn core programming concepts like loops, variables, and logic
  • Use sensors and inputs to build real-world digital solutions

A Collaborative Learning Experience

Our camps are designed to be inclusive, welcoming, and collaborative. Students work together in teams, share ideas, and learn from each other while being supported by academic staff and student mentors.

Participants come from a wide range of schools and backgrounds, creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment.

Who Can Take Part?

  • Second-level students (typically ages 13–18)
  • No prior coding or technical experience required
  • Open to students with an interest in technology, creativity, or problem-solving

We are committed to accessibility and inclusion, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to participate and benefit from the experience.

Why Join an Informatics Summer Camp?

  • Discover new skills in coding and digital technology
  • Experience life on a university campus
  • Meet like-minded students and make new friends
  • Gain confidence in problem-solving and creativity
  • Explore future study and career pathways in Informatics

Most importantly, you’ll gain insight into how technology can be used to make a positive impact on the world.

Continuing the Journey

Our camps are just the beginning. The skills and tools introduced during the programme are chosen so students can continue exploring and creating beyond the camp.

Many participants leave inspired to:

  • Develop their own projects
  • Learn more about programming and AI
  • Consider future study in computing and related fields
