The School of Mathematics & Statistics was delighted to participate in the STEM Education Exchange with Visiting Professors from Hangzhou Normal University (HZNU).

Dr Butler’s invited talk at the TU Access and Outreach Programme STEM exchange with Hangzhou Normal University focused on sharing innovative approaches to teaching and outreach through his Maths in the Wild initiative. The visiting professors from HZNU, who specialise in teacher education including art and primary pedagogy, contributed to discussions on best practices in innovative teaching and outreach.

The talk outlined how the programme makes mathematics accessible and relevant for primary and secondary students by linking concepts to real‑world applications and research contexts. It also described the structure and variety of interactive workshops and highlighted the initiative’s impact, reaching over 1,000 students and receiving positive feedback from both students and teachers.
