Successful doctoral defence

The School is delighted to celebrate the success of Rebecca Brady who recently successfully defended her doctoral thesis.

Rebecca is a graduate of TU874, our full-time undergraduate mathematics degree. Following her degree, she decided to pursue research and study for the degree of PhD in the School of Mathematics and Statistics under the supervision of Dr John Butler.

Her thesis, Mathematical Models of Multi-sensory Integration, explores neural processing and responses to multi-dimensional sensory input using mathematical neuroscience and modelling.  Her biologically-motivated work has implications for understanding neural processes and in particular the potential mechanisms responsible for the observed differences in uni-sensory and multi-sensory responses. Indeed, an individual's responses to multi-sensory input can be influenced not only by environmental conditions but also the condition of their brain and maladaptive multi-sensory processing is a key indicator of fall-risk in older adults and in individuals with Parkinson's Disease.

We warmly congratulate both Rebecca and John on their substantial achievement and wish Rebecca well in her future career.
