Published: 16 Jun, 2025

The Jennifer Burke Award for Innovation in Teaching and Learning 2025 was announced at the Irish Learning Technology Association's #EdTech25 Conference in Waterford on 30 May 2025.

There were submissions received from 12 higher education institutions across Ireland this year, with a highly competitive field of submissions highlighting innovative teaching practices and learning initiatives in topics ranging from medicine, business and GenAI, to engineering, entrepreneurship, and teacher education.

There was good news for TU Dublin, the School of Architecture, Building, and Environment, and  particularly the first year students and staff of the BSc (Hons) in Architectural Technology, with the Head of Architectural Technologies, Kirk McCormack, being announced as the overall winner for the creation of the "Sleepout Project".

This award is made annually by The Irish Learning Technology Association (ILTA) in memory of Jennifer Burke, a well-known and highly regarded educator from Dublin City University (DCU). The award recognises and rewards innovative teaching practice and learning design, and, in particular, aims to reflect and remember Jennifer's vibrancy, creativity, energy, and passion for learning.

The unique aspects of the award and the selection process include a rigorous double-blind peer review and a "permanent award" in the form a painting dedicated to Jennifer, exhibited at DCU's The Helix, along with a plaque containing the names of the award winners dating back to 2009.

TU Dublin also received two Highly Commended awards. Read the full story here
