Assistant Lecturer - Timber Technologies and Wood Manufacturing

Damien Cross is an Assistant Lecturer, Consultant and Researcher in the field of Wood & Biobased Materials in the School of Architecture, Building & Environment, City Campus, Bolton Street, Dublin. He lectures in modules related to Lean Manufacturing, Production Management, Project Management, Wood Science, Professional Development Wood Processing; Drying, Grading & Energy across the BSc Sustainable Timber Technology and BSc Architectural Technology programmes and supervises final-year theses focusing on wood material innovation, bioeconomy, and circularity. In addition to lecturing, Damien organises and oversees Industry Work Placement Programs, ensuring that students gain real-world experience through cooperative education. 

Damien is a Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator and a founding member of the Wood and Bio-Based Materials Research Group (WBMRG). His research is primarily focused on Innovation and Problem Solving in the Wood Industry. 

With a background in Wood Science & Technology and Project Management, Damien has over 20 years’ experience in the heavy timber industry. His journey has spanned across biomass energy systems, wood processing, timber frame manufacturing, production management, and lean manufacturing processes, with a focus on delivering complex projects and driving operational improvements.

Damien holds a BSc in Wood Science and Technology (University of Limerick, Ireland) and an MSc in Project Management (University of Salford, United Kingdom), along with professional qualifications in Programmable Logic Control (PLC) and managerial development through IBEC. He has recently completed a Postgraduate Certificate in University Learning and Teaching which further enhances his pedagogical skills.
