Profile

Dr Francesca Ravera is an Assistant Lecturer in Pharmacology and Therapeutics at Technological University Dublin, where she delivers lectures, designs curriculum, and supervises laboratory sessions across clinical pharmacy modules and final-year undergraduate research projects. Demonstrating a strong commitment to professional workforce formation, she also serves as the Placement Coordinator for the BSc in Pharmacy Technician Studies (TU769) programme.

She holds a PhD from the FOCAS Research Institute (TU Dublin), where her doctoral research focused on applying vibrational spectroscopy to advanced cell-based therapies, and a Master’s Degree in Pharmacy from Italy. Dr Ravera is a practising registered pharmacist (MPSI) with an active and diverse clinical background encompassing extensive experience in both community and clinical settings, including clinical medication reviews and antimicrobial stewardship. Alongside her academic and coordination roles, she maintains active industry-academic research links, specialising in spectral data analysis and advanced cell characterisation for therapeutic development.

 

Research Interests

  • Biophotonics & Advanced Therapeutics: Utilising label-free, non-invasive optical techniques (Raman and FTIR spectroscopy) to characterise cell behaviour and monitor response to advanced cell-based therapies.
  • Cancer Pharmacology & Phytochemical Modulators: Investigating the cellular impact of natural bioactive compounds (such as terpenes and polyphenols) on cell stress and chemotherapeutic responses in oncology.
  • Multivariate Data Analysis & Chemometrics: Applying data-driven analytical and statistical models to interpret complex biological and spectroscopic datasets.
  • Antimicrobial Stewardship & Resistance Mechanisms: Evaluating clinical interventions and surveillance strategies designed to mitigate antimicrobial resistance (AMR), focusing on optimising dosing regimens and expanding the clinical pharmacist's role in infectious disease management.
