Course Description

TU805 is the common first year entry point for the majority of four year Level 8 Engineering Degrees in TU Dublin. Students specialise in second and subsequent years and may choose:

TU805 Students learn fundamental principles (Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry), Engineering Applications (Mechanics and Electrotechnology) and Applied Skills (Technical Graphics, Computing and Professional Development). Throughout the year the theoretical subjects are supported by laboratories and a comprehensive course of design projects including a robot building project, a bridge building project and an energy efficiency project.

English Language Requirements

If English is not your first language you will need to provide evidence of your English language proficiency as detailed on our website. Applicants for this course should have a minimum IELTS (Academic Version) English Proficiency of 6 overall (or equivalent) with nothing less than 6 in each component.

Maths Competency Test

TU Dublin run Mathematics Competency Tests (MCT) for applicants to TU805 to offer candidates an alternative route to achieve the H4 Maths minimum entry requirement.

Applications from all Irish/EU citizens are made through the Central Applications Office (CAO).

Note: Applicants presenting with the Irish Leaving Certificate, regardless of nationality, should apply through the CAO.

Applications for undergraduate courses commencing September 2025 are now closed.

Applications for undergraduate courses commencing in September 2026 will open in November 2025. Applications will close in June 2026.

On successful completion of TU805 you are guaranteed a place in second year of a level 8 engineering programme. In principle we reserve the right to limit the number of places in any given discipline but in practice we try to keep enough places available to ensure that every successful candidate gets their first choice.
