Digital Badges
What is a Digital Badge?
A Digital Badge is a quality-assured form of recognition for a body of practice-based learning carried out in a 20-25 hour mini-course. The Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) team, in partnership with colleagues across the University, will offer a suite of Digital Badges to staff in TU Dublin throughout the academic year. Some Digital Badges associated with TU Dublin mini-courses are awarded by TU Dublin, and some are awarded by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. Digital Badges do not have any associated ECST credits or National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) level.
What is required of participants in Digital Badge mini-courses?
Typically, Digital Badge mini-courses will require participants to:
- Attend 4-5 one-hour sessions, usually held online, and usually during lunch (1-2pm).
- Participate in three one-hour triad meetings, through which they will engage with colleagues from across the University who are also working towards the same Digital Badge.
- Engage with learning materials made available on Brightspace.
- Complete a mini-assessment to provide evidence of having met the learning outcomes. Note that detailed feedback post-assessment is not typically provided by the Digital Badge facilitators, but participants can request a follow-up consultation to discuss their assessment, if they wish.
What Digital Badges does the Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) team offer?
Currently, the Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) team offers the following mini-course:
- Digital Badge in GenAI for Teaching and Learning. This course is offered by LTA in partnership with colleagues from the School of Computer Science and Library Services.
Additional Digital Badge mini-courses are currently being designed and will be described here when approved.
