Projects across the University

The faculties, schools and professional services across the University have developed or supported a wide variety of innovative teaching, learning and assessment projects. Browse through this page to get an overview of these projects, and use the links and contact details to find out more.

If you would like to share details of your project here, please contact the Learning Teaching Assessment (LTA) team.

Artificial Intelligence Driving License

AIDLThis project was funded by the NTUTORR programme and was led by Dr Derek Dodd from the Learning, Teaching and Assessment (LTA) team. Find out more here.

The AIDL is an interactive, scenario-driven resource that introduces students to a range of important ethical standards and best practices for integrating AI into their learning and assessment tasks. Through engaging them in multiple-choice scenarios, students are given opportunities to make ethical choices about using AI tools and outputs, culminating in their own 'Artificial Intelligence Driving License'.

Immersive Technologies for Education

A group of staff holding VR headsetsTU Dublin’s Digital Education team leads on the SATLE-funded Immersive Technologies for Education project for the university. Immersive technologies, including virtual reality (VR), offer exciting opportunities to create engaging, authentic learning experiences across all disciplines. To support staff in exploring these possibilities, the Digital Education team has developed a phased professional learning programme designed to build confidence, develop practical skills and drive curriculum integration over three years. The programme is informed by the learning pathway proposed by Khukalenko et al. (2022), recognising that application of immersive technologies develops gradually through supported practice rather than one-off training.
Phase 1: VR Taster Workshops (2026–2027)
Following a successful rollout in Semester Two 2025/26, the VR Taster workshops will continue throughout the 2026/2027 academic year, providing opportunities for additional staff. Taster workshop are advertised on the Digital Education calendar of events (internal access).
Phase 2: Creating Immersive Learning with ThingLink (2026–2027)
Running alongside the continuing Taster workshops, the second phase introduces staff to immersive content creation using ThingLink. Participants who took part in the Taster sessions are invited to learn to design their own interactive VR learning experiences by creating scenes, embedding multimedia content, incorporating assessment activities and developing simple branching scenarios.
Phase 3: Creative Application of VR for Teaching and Learning

Digital Education Futures Collective

A student wearing a VR headsetThe Digital Education Futures Collective is a cross-faculty cross-function initiative, established to provide practical hands-on and financial support for staff exploring and trialling education technology trends that impact how we teach and learn, with a strong emphasis on practice-based learning. Its ultimate aim is to help position our university as a leader in the digital education futures space in the higher education sector in Ireland. Funded by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (HEA) under the SATLE initiative, the Collective's focus for the coming three years is on furthering eXtended reality (VR, AR, MR) in education at TU Dublin. The Collective will also serve as an incubation hub during this time for other future trends, the first of which is AI Virtual Assistants.

Further information about current funded projects, registered projects, and upcoming events can be found on The Collective’s website.
