Did You Know That Building Accessible Content Can Actually Save You Time?

The Digital Education Team has launched a new webpage called Building Accessible Content to change how you think about accessibility in your day-to-day teaching.

Under Irish law, universities are legally required to make their digital content accessible. But that doesn’t have to mean that you have more work to do. We want to offer you smart strategies to streamline your learning content creation - making your content clearer, more organised, usable for everyone and future-proof.

We recommend taking the 'Plus-One' approach (Tobin & Behling, 2018) widely used in UDL. You might start by identifying some so-called 'Pinch Points' and making a small change around just one thing to improve your content accessibility.

The use of simple tools and small shifts in your practice will benefit all students but also reduce your need to troubleshoot later. Trying to make content accessible after the fact is notoriously problematic, and far more time-consuming, than ensuring accessibility at source.

This new webpage includes quick-start guides, tools, and tips to make accessibility an easy part of your existing workflow - not extra work.

Whether you're designing slides, recording lectures or distributing learning content, this information will help you teach more effectively, with better results for current and future students.

Explore the new page here and see how easy it is to make accessibility part of your every day.
