Digital Capabilities Framework for Students

Graduate Attribute Digitally Capable Lifelong Learners title image

The Digital Capabilities Framework for Students sets out the skills, literacies, competencies and attitudes that have been identified collaboratively by staff and students as being important for our students to develop as part of their student learning experience, and supports staff and students as they work to embed and achieve the Graduate Attribute Digitally capable, life-long learners: Graduates who are empowered to adapt and thrive in an ever-changing digitally connected world. Students are also encouraged to use the TU Dublin Digital Capabilities Tool to review their strengths and explore their confidence levels across a broad range of digital proficiencies.

Staff Resources

(1) The first of two resources for staff sets out student development needs associated with each capability noted in the digital capabilities framework for students, and suggests learning activities that could be embedded into teaching, learning, assessment, and feedback practices to help students achieve the graduate attribute 'Digitally capable, life-long learners".

The resource can be accessed from within the Digital Capabilities Frameworks Support Module under the ‘Training’ tab in the VLE, or directly by clicking on the image below.

(2) The second of two resources for staff presents an interactive example of how the Digital Capabilities Framework for Students could be mapped across a programme. It specifies what the progression focus could be for each year of a programme, lists which digital capabilities categories that it crosses over, notes what the students could typically have achieved by the end of that year, and suggests some high level teaching, learning and assessment approaches. It also provides sample discipline-specific broad and assessable Programme Learning Outcomes for each category of digital capabilities in the framework, and notes year-by-year progression and appropriate assessment types.

Student Resource

A resource for students has also been developed to help them understand the elements covered in each digital capability that has been included in the framework. They can use this resource to assess their own digital capabilities under each of the 5 sections listed below. Digital Wellbeing has been woven into each rather than being viewed as a separate section.
